Our 3rds welcome AIB this Saturday at 3pm which will be followed by the presentation of the Chris Stapleton Cup for their incredible league win last season.
For those who don’t know the Chris Stapleton Cup has been named after one our most esteemed, past members.
To put it simply Chris was a Clondalkin RFC legend. He was a founder member and was a driving force of our wonderful club in our formative years.
He served on many of the clubs subcommittee and was notably club president 1988-89. He epitomised the very ethos of club volunteerism, and was often the lead in rebuilding and maintenance of the clubhouse, marking pitches and underage coaching. If fact there wasn’t a cap Chris wasn’t willing to wear.
It was often said if Chris didn’t know you, you hadn’t made it!!
His sons, Eamonn and John “Sid”, have been cornerstones of the club, for the past 48 years, playing in the first underage teams for CRFC.
Eamonn, was Club Captain in 1988-89, 1995-96 and 1999-00, and is still defining the years having scored the title clinching try away to Tallaght last season.
Sid, has had two distinguished, terms as president in 2003-04 and 2010-11, and is the current manager of our 3rds.
Both Eamon and Sid are working tirelessly on the development of our future grounds.
The cup itself will be presented to his Sid, as team manager, and the evergreen Eamonn. All are welcome to roar the lads home and to mark this incredible occasion for the Stapleton & Clon families.
