As the 2019/20 President of Clondalkin Rugby Club, I would like to welcome all our members, players, coaches, officials, family and friends to the start of our season. Congratulations on a fantastic 2018/19 season and let’s bring that success with us into this season’s games. The very best of luck to our club Captain Niall Nolan, our women’s team captain Naomi Fynes and Alaric Collier the second team captain. I would like to wish continued success to our senior club coach Philip Byrne, his coaching team and Alan Hickey women’s team coach. They all work tirelessly for their players and I have every faith that they will all rise to the occasion and bring a renewed drive and success to your teams.
Our Youth and Mini sections continue to grow thanks to the hard work and drive of Derek Murtagh and Gareth Steed along with the many coaches and volunteers that give up their evenings and weekends to make it happen. This season we will see 3 youth teams playing for Clondalkin RFC along with mini groups from U7s up to U12s and a girl’s mini section.
Behind the scenes of every rugby club there is always hard working committees making sure that our club has everything it needs to function and grow. In Clondalkin we are blessed to have such a dedicated executive led by the Chairman Gerry Gilligan, our Hon Sec Brian White and one of the most important roles our treasurer Pat Cagney. No club can function without a pitch and Kevin Laide and Terry Woodhead work all year round to ensure that Clondalkin has pitches that are of the highest standard. I want to thank them and all the other members that sit on the committees for their continued hard work and dedication to keep our great Club growing.
Clondalkin is very lucky to have Eamonn Stapleton as director of Rugby, he is dedicated to making sure that the club is up to speed on everything rugby related and ensuring all our coaches and players have the best possible support through the Football committee.
As a club we strive to be inclusive and family friendly. Each year we try to ensure this by organising different events throughout the season for all our members. Our family day is on the 8th September to kick of the mini season. Keep an eye out on social media and our club website for other events throughout the year.
Make sure to get out and support all our teams this season. Let’s make Gordon Park a home ground fortress and our away fixtures seem as if they were at home. I want to wish each team every success for the coming season and I look forward to supporting them throughout the year. I know we can build on our great success from last season and have continued success.
I look forward to seeing members on the side-lines come rain or shine.
Yours in rugby,
President, Clondalkin RFC, 2019/2020
