It was a weekend where the four adult teams in Clondalkin had a variety of results, It started on Friday evening when the Mens Third team played Bective Rangers under lights in Donnybrook. A good performance saw Clon win by 30-19.
On Sunday the Clonettes Womens team played the League leaders Wicklow RFC in Gordon Park. In spite of Clon losing Shauna Healy with an unfortunate injury, they held their opponents to a brave 5-5 draw. Well done to all the squad and coaching team on gaining two valuable league points in difficult circumstances.
Next up was the Mens Second team who continued their unbeaten league run having a facile victory over Newbridge RFC Seconds. The final score of 71-5 summed up the superiority on this excellent team performance. This victory leaves Clon sitting comfortable on top of their league.
Unfortunately the Mens First team were unable to emulate the above performance going down in a tight encounter against their joint leaders in JI league Newbridge RFC. Both teams scored three tries in a game that saw the lead change hands on a number of occasions. Newbridge won the game by 31- 27. Clondalkin trys were scored by Chris Jebb, Simon King and Matt Stapleton. Chris Jebb also kicked the conversions and penalties. Clon had plenty of scoring opportunities but managed to butcher a number of these by missed passes and knock ons at crucial times. The game was very well refferee by Glenn Sheridan of ARLB who kept good control of an exciting encounter. This loss leaves Clon three points off the leaders in the league leaders but with plenty of games to come the target of promotion is still achievable. Next up are home games against New Ross RFC next Sunday afternoon again in Gordon Park.
The under age teams had busy weekend with the Under 13’s narrowly beaten by Portlaoise RFC by 24-36 in an entertains game. The atmosphere of playing under lights in front of a good crowd followed by a meal of coddle warmed up players and supporters.
On Saturday the Under 15’s entertained a touring Welsh team – Pwllhell RFC. The visitors proved too strong for the Clon boys but the game was enjoyed by all the players and supporters.
