an old sparring partner of Winston Jebb’s who told colourful tales from his rugby career, from spending time in a Buenos Aires jail to confronting the New Zealand Haka as captain of the Irish team. It was however another number 8 legend who was the star of the evening, Clondalkin’s own Kevin Laide who was awarded the unique honor of lifetime membership of the Club. It is a richly deserved recognition of the Tralee native who has given so much to the Club over the years – from teak-tough back row player, referee, coach and latterly as the man who ensures the pitches and clubhouse are maintained in their pristine condition throughout the season. Congratulations to Kevin and there was a suggestion he may have even smiled having won the award!
Presidents Dinner 2017
Clondalkin RFC drew the curtain on their season and Winston Jebb’s term as Club President with a Dinner held in Finnstown House on Saturday 6th May. It was a bittersweet occasion for those present, with former President and Club stalwart Tim O’Connor foremost in club member’s minds, having sadly passed away that morning – may he rest in peace.
The guest of honor on the night was Ulster and Ireland legend Willie Anderson,
There was also time to thank and acknowledge the work that John Bagnall has put in, as he passed on the reigns of head coach to Philly Byrne. John has undoubtedly left the Club in a much stronger and competitive place from when he first came on board and the Club are very appreciative of his work and professionalism over the past 5 years.
