Tough weekend for our Firsts – while Seconds gain hard fought victory

In our final home league fixtures of the season we entertained Kilkenny RFC in Gordon Park last Sunday. Thanks to great work by Kevin Laide and his band of helpers the first pitch was in great condition. Our Seconds led from the front by the evergreen Stevie Cunningham put up an excellent performance in beating our visitors by 26-10.

Unfortunately our Firsts failed to emulate the Seconds and lost by three tries to six with a score line of 17-36. Our lads tried their hearts out but on the day were beaten by a team still hoping to win this league. The current league standings are:

League Table Leinster League – Division 1B

8 Portlaoise 13 2 11 0 181 331 -150 6 3 3 14

Next Sunday game for us is away to North Kildare and is a must win game. As long as we do as well as Portlaoise (who entertain Longford) we will avoid the automatic relegation spot. Our team has been very unlucky with injuries all season but we are performing well but just missing out. So now an opportunity needs to be seized to give us the opportunity to retain our 1B status and build for next season chasing a promotion spot. We need all our supporters to turn up in big numbers to cheer on our boys in Kilcock on Sunday next at 3.00pm.
