CLON U18.5 33.32 NEWBRIDGE U18.5
Clondalkin’s U18.5 team scored with the last play of the game to squeeze past Newbridge and take the victory in this Leinster Youth Group 2 game at Gordon Park. A cracking game provided great entertainment between two evenly-matched sides with the result in the balance right up to the final whistle.
Clon had started strongly and got their reward after some great drives by Jake Dunphy, Tarik Aitamor and Jake Lusk Browne when Louis Lavin powered over the try line for the first score, with Luke Noone slotting the extras. Newbridge came storming back to get on the scoreboard and the rest of the first half saw each team trade scores with first, No.8 Manny Muritala and then centre Liam Redmond grabbing the Clondalkin tries. Noone’s boot was the difference as Clon led 21-15 at half time.
In the second half, the Clon half backs Conor Branigan and Cathal Downey controlled the opening exchanges with Danny Farrell and Craig O’Brien having a big influence on the game and Ben Fallon and Dylan Clarke putting in some of their trademark low tackles. Dave Hughes and Brandon Graham made the hard yards as the men in yellow pressed forward and hooker Dylan O’Sullivan, who was a menace all over the park, finished off a great Clon move with Noone again adding two further points. However, Newbridge came back strongly with three tries of their own to take the lead with only a few minutes remaining. But Clon had the final word with returning back row forward Luke Swayne crashing over in the dying seconds to secure the points and set the team up nicely for the big games coming up.
