Gordon Park, 08.10.17
Clondalkin U14s went down 7 tries to 5 to a combined Bective/Wesley side in a cracking contest in fine conditions at Gordon Park. Both teams put on a fine display of rugby but it was the Donnybrook-based side who gained some measure of revenge for their defeat to the boys in yellow last season in Dublin 4. Ultimately, it was a slow start by the home side that left them with too much to do and in the end, 5 tries from big Donnybrook centre Ben Goulson tipped the scales in their favour.
Clon found themselves 19-0 down after less than ten minutes of play as some missed tackles proved costly. But their heads never went down and they came storming back with fine individual tries from Liam Redmond and Louis Lavin and an excellent conversion from full-back Jack Brennan.
The away side grabbed a try with the last play of the first half to leave the score 26-12 but it was Clon who piled on the pressure early in the second half with Sam Keegan, Tarik Pitamor and Jake Browne making a real nuisance of themselves at the breakdown. Then it was Dean Farrell who ran a great line to get an early score for Clon and Brennan again converted to drag Clon back to within 7. Two tries for Bective/Wesley allowed them some breathing space but Clon’s never-say-die attitude led to Daniel Yerokhin scoring at the foot of the posts in only his second game for the club. Then after Donnybrook had poached a seventh, Luke Noone and Eoghan Kelly made the hard yards before captain Luke Swayne burst through to leave the final score 45-31. Next up for Clondalkin is a tricky away assignment in Greystones.
