A scintillating game which flowed from end to end saw Clon grab a victory with a bonus point fourth try in the last minute of the game. One had to feel sorry for Mullingar RFC who were a minute away from survival in Div 1B only to see all the gods line up against them with Suttonians, Nth Kildare and Portlaoise all win and condemn Mullingar to 2A next season. Best of luck there guys.
The Bonus point win saw Clon leap past Tullow into second place and earn a promotion/relegation play off away to either Monkstown or Kilkenny.
Well done to our guys who never gave up and kept plugging away for that final try which Mattie touched down to the relief of the large crowd cheering on both teams.
However before we get to that game we have the small matter of the Quarter Final of the Provincial Towns Cup game away to Skerries next Sunday. We had thought that the game would be played on Thursday but Skerries changed their minds and declined our request to play earlier. So we have a point to prove next week and continue the positive results for all our teams. The Thirds beat Terenure RFC on Saturday to finish their league and now must play off a final against the same opposition. Our seconds are awaiting the playing of last weekends cancelled game in Portlaoise which will decide the winners of their league.
Our Womens team put up a great performance against Tullow but suffered a narrow defeat in their cup game played earlier today. Well done girls – we were all proud of the great team spirit you displayed.
