Rugby sevens will be instated at the 2016 Summer Olympics to take place in Rio de Janeiro with both men’s and women’s contests. The IRFU is placing a huge effort on both but a special concentration on the women’s game. And we may have a representative from Clondalkin RFC to support all the way to Rio!
Following on from her bringing honour to the club by being selected and playing for Leinster in 2014, our captain, Mairead Holohan has been selected on the Irish Development squad for the Rugby Sevens. Starting just after Christmas she has been training with that squad and will do so for a further 6 weeks before playing in an internal tournament with the senior squad.
