Clondalkin under 12’s played their local rivals Barnhall RFC away on Sunday fielding two teams consisting of both experienced and new players.
Despite a slow start by Clondalkin in the first match, down 4-0 at half time, Clondalkin put up a courageous fight back in the second half to pull 2 tries back, but in the end Barnhall prevailed. However, this was to be the only loss of the day for Clondalkin U12’s. There were some excellent individual performances from Daniel Featherstone, Peter O’Neill to name a few but over all a great team effort was displayed by the two Clondalkin teams with Sinead Brennan as player of the day. Cillian Sallier moved from outhalf to inside centre for the remaining matches and this was to be the turning point for Clondalkin as he made a number of crucial defensive tackles in addition to gaining serious meters in attack which gave the Clondalkin the edge. A great day was had by all concerned with the final tally from 4 matches seeing Clondalkin edge the overall result against Barnhall with two wins one draw and one loss. Clondalkin Head Coach Noel Bergin was very happy with his charges, commenting that it was one of the best performances he had seen from his side and feels that the future of Clondalkin Rugby is in a healthy state.
