Dear Members,
It is my privilege to write to you as President of Clondalkin RFC ahead of the upcoming season. It was a massive honour to be asked to represent our club last year and unfortunately, as events transpired, it was a much different one than any of us were expecting. I am extremely grateful to the Executive Committee and our members for a second opportunity.
It is hard to fully put into words the impact COVID-19 has had on each of us. We remember those we won’t meet on the side lines this season including past presidents, members and loved ones. I would also like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank the members for the support extended to my own family during that time. For me, I will never forget those countless acts of kindness and they represented everything that is great about our club.
The lockdowns may have put a halt to our on field activities but the club was a hive of activity and a welcome distraction throughout. These efforts afford us a fantastic opportunity to hit the ground running this season and that wouldn’t be possible without our volunteers, coaches, committees and officers who have maintained operations, our clubhouse and grounds for the past 12 months. We’ve never been a club to stand still and wait and that certainly didn’t change last year. In the planned relocation of the club, it sees us embark on the biggest project since first breaking ground in Gordon Park in 1977. We owe a massive debt to all members, the development sub-committees and the Executive whose contributions have made this fantastic opportunity possible.
With so much happening off the field, it could be easy to forget the most important reason any of us drive through the gates – the rugby. I would like to wish our club captains, Marcus and Shona, all players, coaches and support teams every success for the campaign ahead. If the past year has proved anything to us, it is that if we continue to work hard, take care of each other and keep a smile on our faces, we as a club are capable of anything. May every success follow those efforts.
Lastly, I just want to wish each and every one of you a fantastic season ahead and I am really looking forward to catching up with old faces and getting to know a few new ones too.
Yours in rugby,
Kevin Cullen
President, Clondalkin RFC, 2021/22
