Clon’s U15s pulled off an amazing victory against a previously high-flying Lansdowne side under Friday night lights at the Aviva, to reach the Division One League semi-finals. In a superb game of rugby, tries from John Rey Velez, Conor Jordan and Dan Yerokhin plus some wonderful kicking from the tee from Jack Brennan saw the men in yellow 19-5 ahead after 15 minutes before the home side came roaring back to leave it all square on the scoreboard, 19-19 at halftime.
For all their pressure, Lansdowne could only manage a penalty kick in a second half that was frequently interrupted for injury stoppages, such was the ferocious tempo of the game. But it was flying winger Danny Farrell who ghosted in from the left wing to seal the victory for Clon on a great night for the club and their marvellous vocal travelling support. Every player stepped up in what was a full squad effort that now sees them march on to a well-deserved League semi-final.
